About The Treatment
What do I offer?
My clinic is a relaxed home environment. It is sunny, casual, and comfortable. It is easy to find and easy to park. I accept HealthPartners insurance and am happy to provide receipts for other insurance claims.
What happens at the appointment?
Your appointment will last one hour. Each appointment consists of an intake, which includes analysis of your medical history and discussion of your health. Following the intake you will lie on a massage table or sit comfortably while the needles are inserted. I use only very fine surgical steel needles. They are sterile and used only one time. After your treatment, they are removed and recycled in a sharps container. I am gentle and use a very fine gauge of needle. People find my treatments to be relaxing and pain free. Once the needles are positioned you will feel endorphins release and your sense of wellbeing increases. The needles are left in place for 20-30 minutes. Most people fall asleep or have deep relaxation at this time.
Herbs
You may want to use herbal medicine. We will discuss your condition and medications that you are taking to evaluate if herbs are a good choice for you. I am a trained herbalist and can provide the herbs that you need.
What else?
Sometimes I use herbal plasters and ointments, tuning forks, magnets, tui na massage, auricular treatments, or other techniques. We decide as part of the evaluation process whether the addition of any therapies will benefit you.
Fees
My fee is $60.00 for a one hour appointment.

I accept cash, checks and credit cards. (There is a small fee added for credit cards.)

I am a HealthPartners provider and can bill them directly. Please call HealthPartners or your insurance company to see if your policy has acupuncture coverage and to confirm your deductible or co-pay. If you have insurance other than HealthPartners, I am happy to provide a receipt that you can submit to be reimbursed.
How does acupuncture work?
A good diagnosis is the key factor to a good treatment. That is why it is important to go to someone who has graduated from an acupuncture school, has passed the NCCAOM board exams, and continues to study and practice acupuncture diagnostics and theories. Education and experience help the acupuncturist get to the root of your problems. In Minnesota look for the L.Ac title for acupuncturists. This title reassures you that the practitioner is licensed with the state medical board and has the knowledge you deserve.

Diagnosis is complicated and involves looking, listening, pulse taking, diagnosing the tongue, and analyzing the information you provide about your mental and physical state. All of the information fits together and is analyzed by your acupuncturist to find the cause of your concerns. At my clinic you get what is called a root and branch treatment. I will work to find what is causing the problem (root) and treat that along with your complaints (branches).

The theories of acupuncture are complex and fascinating. These theories involve meridians that flow along your body. Energy or qi flows all around you and through these meridians. When qi is blocked or not flowing properly, trouble ensues.

Acupuncture can work as preventative medicine or work on problems that already exist. Early treatment is more likely to clear up a problem and make it go away. Severe and chronic problems benefit from acupuncture but may not go away completely. Some people have immediate results that last and some need successive treatments to feel a gradual improvement. How you respond is unique to you but is affected by your age, state of health, the severity or chronic nature of your condition, and how long you have had the problem.
Acupuncture is used for many conditions and disorders, including:
  • Allergies, colds, and asthma.
  • Digestive disorders of all types.
  • Pain of all types including fibromyalgia, arthritis, headaches, neck pain, TMJ, back pain, and sciatica.
  • Mental, emotional issues such as depression, anxiety, and stress.
  • Women's issues of all types including infertility, menstrual pain and disorders, and menopause.
  • Fatigue and low energy.
  • Acupuncture can help with your overall health and symptoms if you have diabetes, hypertension, MS, cancer, and other serious conditions.
What conditions do I treat the most?
Since 1998 I have had the good fortune to see many patients each week in a variety of settings and locations. Since 2002 I have seen patients while working with students at the NWHSU acupuncture school teaching clinic. Currently I work at my private clinic and at Crocus Hill Acupuncture & Herbal Medicine. In the past, I have worked at Woodwinds hospital /Woodwinds Natural Care Center, chiropractic clinics, and other acupuncture clinics. All of these experiences have allowed me to treat a multitude of health issues and patients of all ages.
Do I treat children?
Yes! I love working with children and specialize in treating them. I have an extensive music background teaching children from infancy to teens. From 2009-2015 I co-owned Pediatric Acupuncture and Wellness Center where we treated children from birth to young adulthood. I continue to treat children at my home office and at Crocus Hill Acupuncture & Herbal Medicine.
